the WORLD
is the new day

the new thought

when you wake,
the world begins to define
itself

& your vision - a membrane of clarity
(watch it shimmer when you rise)

& sound – it comes like boulders
demanding to be caught

your heart quickens
and sets the percussion

of your gaining
wakefulness.

II.
the world rains,
the winds carve the space,
the deserts are sinking, & the
insects are falling upon us.

III.
compassion
grows slowly,
like a tree

history expresses
what not to do (ad nauseum) -

and yet we do it.

the world is a jar
within a jar
